“To move forward, you have to give back.” -Oprah Winfrey
A little over a year ago I received a call from my dear friends (and clients!) Craig and Claire Meredith about wanting to start a philanthropic group in support of a local charity. The premise was simple: gather a group of young professionals for dinner once a month, and add in an element of giving back to every meeting. Our charity of choice is Terry’s House— a hospitality home for families of critical care patients at Community Regional Medical Center. Our group is comprised of “millennials” which are broadly known for being the “me-centric” generation. In hopes to change that narrative, our dinner club was created with a group of like-minded individuals to shift the perception of young people in the community today.
Our group has consistently met once a month to give back to Terry’s House and we are officially 1 year old! In one short year we have completed some small acts that have had big impacts in the lives of resident’s of Terry’s House— everything from ordering pizza and serving dinner, dropping off bagged lunches for residents to eat at the hospital, ordering Christmas presents for children staying at the house, and buying everyday supplies for the house to operate.
I can say with conviction that joining this group has been one of best decisions I have made. I am so thankful for the opportunity to give back to the community that has given so much to me, and I get giddy to think that this is just the beginning of this group’s journey. No matter your means, one small act can cause an enormous ripple effect. Let us always remember this— no matter what stage of life we find ourselves in.
Special Note to #themackadvantage clients: THANK YOU for your business. Your loyalty and commitment to my business allows me to give back to Terry’s House monthly.
Special thanks to Craig & Claire Meredith for starting this club. Cheers to many more years serving the community alongside the both of you. XO
